The West Virginia Chapter of HIMSS (WVHIMSS) represents a diverse group of healthcare professionals and organizations throughout the state of West Virginia. A fairly new chapter, WVHIMSS has been an approved HIMSS Chapter for less than five (5) years.
For the past few years, WVHIMSS has offered two full day education & networking programs for our members each year. We generally have 30-40 members at each session, or about 35% of our total membership. This past year, thanks to one of our vendor sponsors, we were able to offer a web-based “Lunch ‘n Learn” education session. Our Spring meeting in May was a combined program with the WV HFMA, which was very well received by all attendees.
In addition to our focus on education and networking for our members, 2010-2011 brings new programming opportunities:

Hosting regional education/networking/social events to provide more local exposure/networking opportunities

Hosting a West Virginia Advocacy Day

Developing a Student program and Student Scholarship program

Broadening the exposure of WVHIMSS through social media. Over the past couple of months, we have updated our website and created a LinkedIn group and a Facebook page.
Again this year, WVHIMSS plans to host two education/networking meetings (December 2010 and May 2011 timeframes), and at least one webinar based program. We are looking for opportunities to expand on webinar-based sessions. Our December meeting will be hosted at the new United Health Center Hospital, and includes a tour of the new facility. Other details are in the works. The Board met on September 3rd in an all day planning session to lay the groundwork for our education/networking programs for the year, and other initiatives such as the regional networking/social events and the West Virginia Advocacy Day.
The Board of WVHIMSS clearly recognizes the value of establishing a strong sponsorship program and establishing a partnership with our sponsors to ensure continued growth of our chapter. The success of our 2009-2010 year was in large part due to the support from our current vendor sponsors. Without strong sponsorship support, our chapter will not have the resources to expand what we offer to support our membership and our communities. This past year, the Board of WVHIMSS developed a fiscal year based Sponsorship Program, rather than sponsorship on a program by program basis. We feel strongly that our Sponsorship Program will not only benefit our chapter, but provide opportunities and benefits to our Sponsors.
As a WVHIMSS Chapter Sponsor and member, you have the opportunity to serve on committees, host webinars, serve on the WVHIMSS Board, and help shape the overall future of our Chapter.
